Crossovers and filters allow selected frequencies through to
the loudspeakers and horns in a system.
They come in many different formats but perform basically the same
functions as follows: A low pass filter
will allow low frequency sound to pass from your audio amplifier to your speaker,
usually to the bass driver and exclude the rest. As you would therefore expect, a high pass
filter will allow the higher frequencies through from your amp to speaker
(usually to the tweeters), excluding mid and bass frequencies.
A crossover will divide up the frequency spectrum and allow
relevant parts through to each loudspeaker and the horn in the system. When picking a suitable crossover for your
system it best to carefully consider two main points. 1) The power requirements. Do not select a crossover with the power
rating close to or less than the audio amplifier rating. 2) The crossover frequency. Ensure that the high frequency crossover
point is higher than the lowest working frequency of the driver. For
